Portfolio of Works
Commissions come in all manner of subject matter and size. Clients may have a particular concept or sometimes photos as a starting point. I'll first create some sketches to get a solid idea in place for review. Then we go over any other photos, make adjustments and forge ahead. I've been rewarded with tears (of joy that is) and many happy smiles as clients see their ideas realized. These paintings are hanging in companies and homes across the country.
Moody mysterious landscapes in dramatic lighting situations are particularly appealing to me. Spending time outdoors and painting are both wonderful escapes, and combined they are even more challenging and fun. These paintings will bring you along on some of my adventures exploring this fascinating world and the light it emits.
Big waves! There's nothing more mesmerizing than huge, crashing, booming waves, one atop another... the smell of the sea, the mist in the air, the colorful rocks, bizarre pelicans flying by in a squadron and the changing sands of time. (Ok, cliche, but that sand has been moving around a lot lately!) Hiking by the ocean is different every day - the light, the storms and the turbulence, all very entrancing for a landlocked Colorado gal!
I love my Bernese Mountain dogs but equestrian paintings feel more artistic to me. Horses are magnificent and beautiful creatures with a lot of curiosity and character. Yaks (one of the two beasts of burden) can also be as playful as dogs. I once created a documentary about Yaks, but I've discovered they are not a popular topic to adorn peoples walls. (They don't know what they are missing!) And birds - the graceful swan, the stoic eagle, flocks of geese, a busy chickadee building a nest... Wouldn't it be cool to be able to fly?
These are fun 6 x 8 studies that I create to figure out issues for larger paintings or to just get them out of my system as practice. Some are plein air studies, and some just studio paintings.
